Our Story
Kate's love of jewellery started when she was a child, fascinated with her mum's box of treasures on the dressing table. Then while in school she was taught how to make silver pieces by a friend's silversmith neighbour. As soon as Kate was shown how to solder and watched as metal magic happened, it became a lifelong passion. With a set of tools given to her by Linda, the kind silversmith, Kate left her hometown of Cardiff for University in London and a Degree in Silversmithing and Jewellery.
After graduating in the mid '90s, Kate set up her business, worked for other designers to gain experience and showed for several years at London Fashion Week. She gained international stockists and featured in top fashion press, including Elle, Marie Claire and Vogue.
Kate has designed jewellery for many leading companies including Next, DCK, Clogau Gold, Swarovski.
Now based back in Wales near Cardiff, Kate makes eclectic jewellery ranges in silver, gold, metal and semi precious gemstones. Inspiration comes from such sources as Celtic heritage and legends, nature, her family history, art movements and futuristic themes but with a contemporary, fashionable twist. Etched metal, cast components and unique stones feature in her work. She collaborates on collections for National Museum Wales and also teaches jewellery making classes.
KD jewellery is made with as much care for the environment as possible, of recycled silver and gold and ethically sourced gemstones. Treading softly on the planet is a lifestyle and business ethos.
To celebrate 20+ years of creating jewellery, Kate has launched this site with pieces from her archives and brand new collections available to order. Each piece is made in the UK and comes gift boxed in eco packaging..
